    Character History:

River was born in 1948 as Raquel Deveraux. Her parents were swingers that worked in a jazz bar. Her mother Nancy was a singer and her father Jonas played the bass. They often left Raquel home alone even as a young child while they went out and partied the night away, they were neglectful parents to say the least. When Raquel was 16 she ran away… or rather, walked out the front door. Her parents never even tried to find her even though she would watch them from afar and see them go about their lives seemingly unphased that their daughter had gone missing. After months of lurking around her hometown of New Orleans, Raquel decided it was time for a new life and with that came a new name, River.

She was a free-spirited hippy and didn’t think twice about hitching a ride to California where she decided to camp out and call San Francisco her new home. She was ahead of her time and while other girls were choosing chiffon dresses to wear to prom, she was dropping acid with random street kids. The rebel in her came out quickly, or perhaps it was always there. She experimented heavily with drugs, sex, and became a rock n roll groupie, travelling around with different bands that were touring through the country but always calling San Francisco her home.

One day during an insane acid trip at Woodstock she stumbled to an area of the grounds that were sparse, unaware that a creepy douche bag was following her. When she finally noticed, it was too late. The man had thrown her to the ground and raped her shouting out the entire time how it was ‘free love’. No matter how much sex River had engulfed herself in she had never been raped and was screaming loudly for help. This upset the guy who was also on acid, making his trip turn from bad to worse which led him to beat her senseless until she was practically at death.

As she lay there dying and still tripping on acid a woman found her and seemed to fly her out of the large outdoor concert area which made her wonder if she really was dying or if this trip was just an extremely realistic dream. Turns out… she did die. River woke up in a large Rococo style bedroom feeling completely… different. A beautiful classy looking woman was sitting at her bedside smiling. River, confused asked what was going on and the woman explained what River had now become.

Over the next few years she learned a lot from her maker who she found out was named Mina Dahlia. Although, it surely wasn’t an easy task for Mina; River was extremely difficult to deal with. She had no respect for authority and was as mouthy as they come. She ultimately did love her maker but never showed it as she permanently had parental issues due to her years growing up human. She did everything in her power to get Mina’s attention but did it in the worst ways possible. Mina ended up setting her free thinking that this is what her child wanted, even though it in fact was not what River wanted deep inside. But River went on her way and became a drifter.

After 35 years of state hopping, loneliness has started to sink into her undead heart and she has decided to go back to her human hometown of New Orleans. While there she found something better than her old home… the feeling that her maker was close. She hunted around Louisiana until she stumbled upon a town called Bon Temps. This is where she felt the presence of Mina the strongest. She followed that feeling which led her to a back woods hick bar called Merlotte’s. Inside she saw her maker, the only question was… would her maker feel her presence? And what kind of a reunion would this be?
